Special Sessions Called for Upcoming General Assembly

Cleveland, TN—The Church of God International Executive Council has released a statement concerning the unique circumstances surrounding the postponement of the 78th International General Assembly from 2020 to 2022.

Community Service Chaplaincy Course Available June 6-10

Community Service Chaplains around the world are fulfilling the missional mandate to take the hope of the gospel outside the walls of the local church. The Church of God Chaplains Commission is the ministry of the Church of God that provides the official endorsement for ordained ministers to fill positions as vocational chaplains, but the Commission also certifies the training of both clergy and lay people to serve as volunteer Community Service Chaplains.

Spring/Summer 2022 Issue of Engage Journal Now Live

The Spring/Summer 2022 issue of Church of God Engage has been released and is available digitally at cogengage.org.

The journal for ministers, church and lay leaders, offers a variety of articles for those working or volunteering in church ministry. Engage offers practical ministry ideas, recommendations, and resources, as well as items for the local church to implement. In addition, advertisements throughout the publication are provided by the departments and ministries of the Church of God and include live links to websites of advertisers.

Features in this issue include a focus on churches returning to normal, Americans talking about their faith, and generational gaps in giving. General Overseer Tim Hill continues the series, “Let’s Talk About It,” with an entry entitled, “Why I Enjoy Sunday Church Visits.”

The Doctrine and Polity papers, a series of articles that addresses the Church of God’s core values, continues in this issue with an extensive treatise addressing women in the church. The article is written by Dr. Terry Cross of the School of Religion at Lee University.

Recurring sections include a column penned by Church of God Legal Counsel Dennis Watkins who addresses church insurance issues. President and CEO of the Benefits Board Art Rhodes talks about student loan forgiveness for ministers and church employees.

Published three times a year, Engage is emailed directly to ministers, pastors, staff and leaders in the Church of God. It is then made available to anyone through logging into the website cogengage.org. On the site, the publication may be viewed in a convenient PDF format. There are also archived copies of the publication going back several years.

General Assembly Prayer Focus Culminates with May 15 Event

Cleveland, TN–A special 15-day prayer focus, which began on May 1, highlights the upcoming Church of God General Assembly. The observance will conclude with a celebration event set for Sunday night, May 15 at 8:00 pm EST.

Lee Alum Smith Makes Top 10 on NBC’s “American Song Contest”

Cleveland, TN–Lee University alumnus Jordan Smith has made it to the finals of the NBC all-live music competition series, “American Song Contest.” Smith, along with the other nine finalists, will perform on The Live Grand Final, which will air Monday, May 9, at 8 p.m. ET.
