Revised Edition Review of Global Pentecostal/Charismatic Movement Released
Dr. Grant McClung and Bridge-Logos Publishing have announced the revised edition of McClung’s Azusa Street and Beyond: Missional Commentary on the Global
Pentecostal/Charismatic Movement (March 2012).
In its original 1986 version, Azusa Street and Beyond was one of the earliest forerunners of the emerging and now maturing academic field of “Pentecostal/Charismatic missiology.”
Russell P. Spittler, Provost Emeritus at Fuller Theological Seminary and noted Pentecostal scholar, says the book, “…has been a durable classic, a pioneer publication in the field of Pentecostal missiology” and George O. Wood, General Superintendent of the Assemblies of God states that the publication, “…identifies missions as essential to Pentecostal identity and challenges readers to better understand the implications of the movement’s global growth.”
The new, revised edition is an insightful and prophetic collection of essays and observations from Pentecostal and Charismatic missionaries, evangelists, pastors, laity, educators, missiologists, sociologists, social activists, historians, missions executives and missions mobilizers. Each of the four main sections (history, theology, strategy, future trends) is introduced with a comprehensive overview introduction by McClung. Scholarly, yet easy to read, the book has had wide acceptance as a foundational missions textbook in seminaries, universities, and Bible colleges, and has been a popular resource for local church pastors, laity, and missions leaders.
McClung is President of Missions Resource Group, a world missions resourcing ministry that provides training, consulting, and mentoring to the global Great Commission community
(www.MissionsResourceGroup.org), and Missiological Advisor to the World Missions Commission of the Pentecostal World Fellowship. He is a member of a number of international missions related boards and advisory groups including the Global Diaspora Network Advisory Board (Lausanne Committee for World Evangelization). For his denomination, McClung is currently serving in an at-large capacity for global missionary education through Church of God World Missions. He was an elected member of the International Executive Council of the Church of God (Cleveland, Tennessee U.S.A.) from 2006 – 2010.
A trained missiologist, McClung is a graduate of the Fuller Theological Seminary School of Intercultural Studies (Doctor of Missiology) where he served as Teaching Assistant to C. Peter
Wagner and was awarded the Paul Yonggi Cho Church Growth Award for his research on Pentecostal missions. He is an Advisory Editor for Christianity Today and a regular contributor to
missions and Pentecostal/Charismatic publications.
Upon the occasion of the centennial observance of the Azusa Street Revival (1906 – 2006), McClung’s article, “Pentecostals: The Sequel,” was featured as the cover story for the April 2006
issue of Christianity Today. His newest publication, together with Co-editor Arto Hamalainen, is Together in One Mission: Pentecostal Cooperation in World Evangelization (forthcoming from
Pathway Press, Summer 2012). McClung and his wife, Janice (a musician, composer, and speaker), have led a weekly global intercessory prayer ministry in their local church for more than
twenty-five uninterrupted years.
In addition to the distribution by Bridge-Logos Publishers (www.bridgelogos.com), Azusa Street and Beyond is available from Pathway Press (www.Pathwaybookstore.com).
