Lee University Sponsoring ‘Secret Church’ Event

On Friday, April 20, 2012, Lee University will host The Secret Church.

Modeled after the persecuted church and their study of the Word, Dr. Mark Walker, Senior Pastor of Mount Paran North in Atlanta, will lead a six-hour study of the New Testament beginning at 6:00 p.m. The event will be held at the Church Street Annex, the former First Baptist Church building, which is now part of the Lee campus.

The Secret Church started in Birmingham, Ala., based on the time David Platt, author of New York Times Best Seller “Radical,” spent in the underground churches of Asia. During his time there, he participated in services where people would gather for 8 or more hours simply to study the Word of God. When he returned to the states he decided to implement this idea in his church. The attendance grew so large that he partnered with LifeWay Christian Resources to provide simulcasts of these services.

Walker, a member of Lee’s board of directors, holds a doctoral degree from Regent University and has served at Mount Paran since 1992. He thrives on working together with the body of Christ to truly make a difference in the lives of people around the world.

Jackie Leggett of Cleveland, Tenn., will also be sharing about her experiences with the persecuted church. She is the widow of aid worker, Chris Leggett, who was killed in 2009 while serving those who are being persecuted. Leggett still takes frequent trips overseas to continue the work her late husband started there.

Throughout the evening there will also be times of worship and prayer.

The registration deadline for this event is Tuesday, April 10. Admission is $10 per person to cover the study guide needed for the evening. Students will be admitted free with ID.

A love offering will be collected to support Bible translation.
