Point Barrow, Alaska Church Looks for a Miracle
Follow the missionary journey through the blog of Glenn and Susan Anniskette.
Point Barrow, Alaska is the most northern city in America and was just featured in a recent movie entitled, “Big Miracle.” We are here this week for a revival in the New Beginnings Church of God with Pastors Dave and Tina Matthews and we believe that bigger miracles than the movie are in the near future for this city.
Pastor Dave stated that there are approximately 4,500 people in the city of Barrow and only seven churches. The Church of God presently runs around 75 and is ready to build their first building. Their present location is a rented building that has worked well, but the lease runs out at the end of the year. A large piece of frozen tundra in a prime location facing the Arctic Ocean was given to the New Beginnings church and they are raising money to buy gravel to fill in the lot and the building (plus freight) to go on it. The freight will cost as much as the building because it has to be brought in on a barge. The total cost for this project is approximately one half million dollars.
Bishop Charles Fisher, Overseer for the state of Alaska is raising funds throughout the United States for some of the churches in Alaska. Barrow is one of those churches he’s trying to raise funds for as well. His goal is $125,000.00. Churches or individuals wanting to adopt/support any of the churches in Alaska need to contact alicefis@gci.net or send any donations to the Church of God World Mission Department using project #102-7088. Please specify the church you wish to support.
We believe that God will help them raise the money to build this church for God. If you’re interested in helping you can find their contact information at www.newbeginningsbrw.org.
