Jeff Foxworthy to Host GSN Bible Game Show

The Game Show Network, or GSN, announced last week that it had signed comedian Jeff Foxworthy to host The American Bible Challenge.

The new program is a one-hour studio-based game show in which contestants compete based on their knowledge of the Bible. According to GSN, Foxworthy will ask questions “designed to acknowledge and celebrate the Bible’s continuing importance in contemporary life and culture.” The American Bible Challenge contestants will share their back stories and each team will play for a faith-based organization.

“I am excited to be hosting a show about the best-selling book of all time. It will be interesting to find out what people really know, and an opportunity to present the Bible in a fun and entertaining way,” Foxworthy says.

Foxworthy, who currently appears on GSN as the host of Are You Smarter Than a 5th Grader?, is the largest-selling comedy recording artist in history, a multiple Grammy-Award nominee and best-selling author of more than 26 books. Widely known for his redneck jokes, his act goes well beyond that to explore the humor in everyday family interactions and human nature, a style that has been compared to Mark Twain’s.

The American Bible Challenge is produced for GSN by RelativityReal, whose TV credits include Showtime’s reality series Gigolos, Hollywood Girls Night on the TV Guide Network and TLC’s documentary Ted Haggard: Scandalous.

Michael Davies, the executive producer of GSN’s The Newlywed Game, will serve as the show’s exec producer. The consulting producers are members of Odyssey Networks, a multi-faith nonprofit organization. GSN will shoot the pilot later this month.
