Privileged to Teach

KENYA — How amazing that I have the privilege to do what I love to do, encouraged by so many wonderful people around the world. As I sat on a rope swing on our family farm in South Dakota in the 40s, who would have imagined that I would travel the globe one day?

Imagine with me the roar of Victoria Falls in Zimbabwe with so much mist that my friend and I were drenched from the spray! Higher and wider than Niagara Falls, the falls are exceeded only in tons of water going over the falls. On either side are statues of the missionary Doctor Livingstone who told the world about this wonder and gave his name to the nearby town of Livingstone, Zambia, where we stayed.

But to me, no less amazing was the privilege to teach 12 leaders of the Church of God in Africa – overseers, education directors, Bible school directors, CIMS coordinators – they were an amazing group of students. This was the start of the Master of Arts in Christian Leadership program, designed to enable 12 deserving leaders to take a step up educationally, while still remaining in Africa where they live and work. I taught Old Testament Theology in the mornings, while Benson and Cathy Vaughan from ETS taught Research and Writing in the afternoon. Thank you, Lord, for this privilege.
