Registration Under Way For Smoky Mountain Jubilee
Excitement is mounting and registrations are now being accepted for the 2013 Smoky Mountain Jubilee to be conducted April 9-11, 2013 at the Gatlinburg Convention Center in Gatlinburg, Tennessee. This annual event, sponsored by Church of God USA Missions, attracts several hundred seniors from across the country for two nights and a day-and-a-half of fun, fellowship, worship, and interaction. The event is for both ministry and laity.
This year’s Jubilee will feature a live concert on Tuesday night at 6:00 p.m. with the Evangelistic Singers, a multicultural choir from Lee University, and highlighted by Nashville singer-musician Gordon Mote. Born blind, Gordon Mote and his brother (also born blind) were the first blind students to “mainstream” in Alabama Public Schools, and Gordon was the first blind student to ever graduate with a degree in music from Nashville’s Belmont College. He has traveled extensively with the Gaither Homecoming Group and also played and sang with the Gaither Vocal Band. Mote has played keyboard on more “Top 10” gospel and country recordings than any other keyboardist of his time. Gospel music legend Bill Gaither says, “Gordon Mote is one of the brightest musical minds in gospel music!”
On Wednesday, April 10, seniors will engage in the annual Senior Talent Competition (ages 50 and up) with entries in music, art, and creative writing. Delegates will be amazed at the tremendous talent that performs and is exhibited in each area of competition.
On Wednesday night, Church of God General Overseer Mark L. Williams will bring one of his timely and always-dynamic messages. A master at memorization, and an anointed communicator, Dr. Williams will be a highlight of this Jubilee. Prior to his preaching, there will be old-fashioned music and worship featuring a combined choir of seniors. Special singing will be provided by Pastor David Beatty, who grew up with and is a first cousin to Evangelist Jimmy Swaggart, country singer Mickey Gilley, and the legendary rocker, Jerry Lee Lewis.
Thursday morning’s final session will feature worship, fellowship, door prizes, and the presentation of the awards for the Senior Talent Competition.
Registration is $69 per person, and registration forms as well as a listing of Gatlinburg hotels can be downloaded from www.usamissions.com, or you may call Convention Services at 865.428.5787, or USA Missions at 423.478.7103. A two-minute video about the Jubilee is also viewable on the website.
