Churches and Ministries Unite to Save the Colorado National Day of Prayer

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo.–The Pray For America Rally Tour, commissioned by the National Day of Pray Task Force, began a 23,000-mile, 100-day, 37-state tour in Pittsburgh, PA. on May 31, 2013. On Sunday, August 4, this tour will arrive in Colorado and begin a 5-day mobilization effort to save the Colorado National Day of Prayer.

The Colorado Supreme Court recently accepted a petition from Attorney General John Suthers for Certiorari to appeal the Colorado Court of Appeals decision of May 10, 2012, that struck down gubernatorial prayer proclamations. With the door now open for amicus brief filings, the National Day of Prayer is rallying its followers to support Governor Hickenlooper’s appeal that Colorado leadership be able to continue to call for prayer and issue proclamations recognizing prayer in Colorado.

Shirley Dobson, Chairman of the National Day of Prayer Task Force, headquartered in Colorado Springs, Colo., stated, “If we do not prevail, the implications could potentially impact every state. The outcome would set a precedence that a Governor cannot issue proclamations for a National Day of Prayer, nor participate in related events. It would unleash a firestorm by anti-faith organizations to attack every state Governor. The future of this vital assembly now rests in our hands.”

NDP executive staff will travel on-board the specially designed master coach bus, which is equipped as a transport device for daily community impact, carrying a mobile radio studio for NDP’s Pray for America Podcast-stopping in over 300 communities with scheduled events, rallies, and man-on-the-street interviews.

The Pray for America Rally Tour team is sharing its challenge to engage, encourage and equip Americans in prayer in places of historical interest such as Boston, Plymouth, New York City, and Philadelphia (http://commit2pray.com/bus-tour/). Sponsors of the Rally Tour include prominent Christian ministry leaders Joni Eareckson Tada, David Jeremiah, Dr. Jim and Shirley Dobson, and Greg Laurie.

The National Day of Prayer (www.nationaldayofprayer.org) observance on May 2, 2013 was just the beginning of NDP efforts to mobilize prayer in communities throughout. John Bornschein, Vice Chairman of the NDP Task Force, said,”The National Day of Prayer was the single, largest mobilized effort of prayer in the history of our nation and we must work diligently, together, to make every day a national day of prayer! The momentum continues as we travel the nation on this Pray for America Bus Rally Tour. Our team is in the Midwest right now embarking on an incredible journey to equip and encourage communities from Maine to California. Imagine the impact thousands of churches and individuals will have as they take up the mantle to pray for our leaders, families, businesses, schools and more, each and every day. Indeed, it is our goal to ensure that prayer remains an integral part of our national life.”

Members of the PFA team–authors and speakers including John Bornschein, Dion Elmore, Kathy Branzell and Lisa Crump–plan to meet with governors, mayors, pastors, and churches-praying for them and promoting the need for fervent prayer in their communities with a challenge to stand boldly in prayer for America-all year long-with intentional prayer for America’s government, military, families, education, media, businesses and churches.

The first leg of the nationwide Rally Tour began in Pittsburgh, PA, on May 31 and will conclude in Atlanta, GA, on September 10.
