Williams was named, “Minister of the Day” and was introduced by Rep. Kevin Brooks, who serves in the Communications Department of the Church of God International Offices. Brooks represents Cleveland, Tennessee and was first elected in 2006. He also serves as Assistant Majority Leader in the House.

Williams was accompanied by his wife, Sandra Kay, who serves the Church of God as international president of women’s discipleship for the Church of God.

“It is a true high honor to be here in this hallowed place to invoke God’s blessings ,” Williams told the gathering of state representatives and guests before he prayed the invocation. Brooks then led the House in the pledge of allegiance.

Later that morning, Dr. and Mrs. Williams met privately with Tennessee Governor Bill Haslam in the governor’s office where Williams shared a brief history of the Church of God in Tennessee and the two exchanged views on leadership development. The governor thanked the general overseer for his, “leadership in the faith environment.” Williams closed the gathering with a prayer over Governor Haslam as he leads the state of Tennessee.
