‘Finish Challenge’ Is Theme of GA2014 Missions Service
“A renewed sense of urgency must be captured by the church if it is to fulfill its World Missions calling,” according to Church of God World Missions Director Tim Hill. This is the preeminent theme of the Thursday evening World Missions service in the Church of God General Assembly set for Orlando July 29-August 1.
“We believe when Jesus uttered His Great Commission—take the gospel to all nations—that He intended it would one day be finished,” Hill declared. “We are expecting the soon Second Coming of Christ, and we are determined to hear His ‘Well done, good and faithful servant,’ for our obedience. We must have a Great Commitment to the Great Commission.”
The “Finish Challenge” theme will be communicated in fast-paced video vignettes, interviews with missionaries representing victories in many of the church’s 180 countries, stirring music, a Parade of Nations, and an exhortation by the director to all believers to link together to answer the challenge.
“Never until now have conditions been so propitious for getting the gospel to all people,” the director continued. “We have an army of missionaries both from North America and from former mission fields around the world; we have unparalleled technology in our hands; we have an unsurpassed level of knowledge of who the lost people are and where they live; we have financial and material means unrivaled in history. Finish the Great Commission? We can do this! That will be the challenge in this unprecedented call to urgency.”
The World Missions service takes place in the Orange County Convention Center in Orlando, beginning at 7:00 p.m. It is open to the public.
