Over 300 Attend Chaplains Commission Pre-General Assembly Conference
Reunion and refreshing were words used to describe the Pre-Assembly Chaplains Commission Conference held just prior to the start of the 75th Church of God International General Assembly in Orlando, Florida late last month. Almost 300 chaplains and family members gathered on Monday evening for delicious food and delightful fellowship. The Conference sessions throughout the day were highlighted by powerfully anointed messages from Dr. Cheryl Johns and Dr. Hugh Nelson who spoke to the hearts of all.
Dr. David Smartt was the recipient of the Distinguished Chaplain Award. He was honored for his exceptional achievements as an Army Chaplain and his outstanding contribution to Church of God Chaplaincy. Dr. Smartt was the first Church of God Army Chaplain to serve at the rank of Colonel as a director in the Chief of Chaplains Office in the Pentagon. He is also the only Church of God Chaplain to hold the position of Commandant at the U.S. Army Chaplain Center and School.
Chaplain Keith Munford, who has served with distinction as the Senior Clinical Chaplain for the Church of God for a number of years, passed the torch of leadership responsibility to Chaplain Lloyd Looney. Dr. Looney is the founder and director of Greenleaf Counseling Services in Buford, Georgia. Our Church of God Chaplains are blessed to have a minister with twenty plus years of experience as a Clinical Chaplain and numerous professional certifications to serve in this capacity.
Unable to attend the conference was Chaplain Commission Director, Dr. Donnie Smith, whose father passed away on Friday prior to the start of the conference. His father, Reverend Dewey Smith, was a retired Church of God pastor. Messages of condolence can be emailed to [email protected].
