‘The Passion Of The Christ’ Influences Interest in Learning Aramaic Language
Interest in Aramaic has soared over the past decade, notably after the release of Mel Gibson’s blockbuster movie The Passion of The Christ, which was filmed in Aramaic and brought Aramaic to the attention of an international Christian audience.
Ewan MacLeod, B.Sc. Hons., M.Sc. and founder of JesusSpokeAramaic.com, an interactive Aramaic teaching website, said, “Aramaic was the language spoken by Jesus and the disciples, and in which the Gospel was first preached. Learning this beautiful and ancient language enriches the lives of all who come to it, and makes the pages of the Bible come alive to our modern generation.”
Gibson’s movie sparked MacLeod’s own interest in Aramaic and in turn led MacLeod to design the subscription website and a free monthly newsletter, which was recently launched worldwide.
Ewan MacLeod is an authority on Hebrew and Aramaic having dedicated over 25 years of study, as well as an author, international Bible speaker, Bible collector and historian who took a special interest in the original languages of Scripture (Hebrew, Aramaic and Greek) as well as old Bibles and Bible manuscripts. He believes that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, inerrant in all its parts, the only revelation by which people can get to know God. MacLeod desires to restore people’s faith in the Holy Scriptures through this easily navigated, interactive website and range of DVDs, Aramaic workbooks and Bibles.
MacLeod said, “This Easter season as we celebrate Holy Week and Christ’s glorious resurrection, I encourage you to join thousands of other believers in the remarkable journey of studying the Aramaic language and the Aramaic Bible, which allows one to get back to more authentic and original roots of both the Old and New Testaments.”
The website navigates students, laypeople and scholars alike, through the letters of the Aramaic Alphabet step by step, and letter by letter, along with the videos, flashcards and quizzes to test the student’s growing knowledge.
