‘Saturday Night Fire’ Scheduled for April 11
Last January, Mark Williams, general overseer of the Church of God, led the way in a 21-day Virtual Prayer Initiative that connected leaders, pastors and the laity across the nation in a two-hour nightly prayer call.
“On one night alone, more than 50 international callers were on-line,” stated Doug Small, the denomination’s prayer coordinator. “In some cases, congregations gathered placing the call on speaker so all could hear and join in prayer. Almost forty administrative bishops led segments of the calls, and altogether, the number of connections onto the calls approached 5,000. By the end of the experience, Dr. Gary Lewis and State Youth and Christian Educators were sponsoring a Friday Night Midnight Call for teens, often reflecting on the power of the Winterfest experiences.
“We tapped into a hunger, and arguably, an underground river of prayer in the denomination,” Small noted. In addition, reports began to come in of national leaders from other denominations tuning into the calls. “This is too good to stop, and out of that was birth the idea of ‘Saturday Night Fire!’ – a one-hour prayer and revival stories call, at 10 PM EST weekly.
The Saturday Night Fire Prayer Call, coming up this weekend, April 11, is being called, ‘Resurrection Day Flashes of Revival.’ It will feature Church of God pastors telling the story of God’s visitation on Easter Sunday, 2015. Pastors joining the call include – Pastor Kevin McGlamery, Pastor Richard Freeman, Pastor Richard Beasley, and Pastor Travis Hovde. The stories range from California to Carolina, from the Dakotas to Mobile Bay, Alabama. Across the nation, God seems to be doing a fresh work.
Former pastor, Richard Dial, who is involved in providing leadership to the Saturday Night Fire Call says, “There are reports of record attendance, of dozens coming to Christ – and in some cases, more than a hundred. Churches abandoned their buildings to find larger spaces.” Not all the stories can be told, but these stories, according to Pastor Dial, “may be the indicators of the awakening for which all of us have been praying.”
The Saturday Night Fire Call is a continuation of the 21-Day Virtual Prayer Meeting held in January that had almost 5000 connections over the course of the prayer experience.
“Prayer continues,” Small contends, “in fact, in some places, it seems to be escalating, and with it, a determination to see renewal come to the United States.”
