Religious Leaders Speak Out Against ‘Same-Sex Marriage’ — Pledge Defiance
At a press conference last Friday at the National Press Club, a group of spiritual leaders spoke out against so-called same-sex marriage and pledged defiance should the U.S. Supreme Court attempt to redefine marriage in the United States. They included Deacon Keith Fournier (Editor-in-Chief of Catholic Online), Matt Staver (founder and chairman of Liberty Counsel), Focus on the Family Founder Dr. James Dobson (who spoke by video) and Janet Boynes (an ex-lesbian). Statements were read by Bishop Harry Jackson (senior pastor, Hope Christian Church, Washington, D.C.) and Rabbi Aryeh Spero (Caucuses for America).
The press conference was coordinated by Dr. Rick Scarborough, president of Vision America Action, and came just before the court began hearing oral arguments in Obergefell v. Hodges, a case that could lead to the judicial imposition of homosexual “marriage” nationwide.
Pastor Scarborough noted that federal judges have overturned marriage amendments in 26 states – amendments to state constitutions that were enacted overwhelmingly by tens of millions of voters. In another eight states, pseudo-marriage was legislated without allowing a vote of the people. In only three states has the deconstruction of marriage been approved by the people via referendum.
Scarborough explained “Marriage can no more include same-sex couples than a rock can fall up. The Supreme Court can no more redefine marriage than it can redefine gravity.”
Scarborough added that whatever the Supreme Court decides, marriage is a matter “that is settled in Heaven and affirmed by both God’s Holy Scripture and His created order.” Visit WorldNetDaily to read Dr. Scarborough’s commentary “Why I Will Defy Recognition of Same-sex ‘Marriage.'”
Leaders at the press conference and others have initiated a petition at www.defendmarriage.org by which signers “Pledge in Solidarity to Defend Marriage,” declare that “no civil institution…has the authority to redefine marriage” and commit to defying any unconstitutional and un-Godly judicial edict that attempts to change the natural order.
The petition can be read in its entirety, and may be signed, at www.defendmarriage.org. Besides the aforementioned, signers to date include Franklin Graham (son of Rev. Billy Graham), Lt. Gen. Jerry Boykin (U.S. Army, ret.), former Ohio Treasurer and Secretary of State Ken Blackwell and Former Arkansas Gov. and FOX TV personality Mike Huckabee, as well as thousands of concerned citizens.
