World Missions, Alabama State Offices Endorse Turning Point

Turning Point is a nonprofit recovery center which operates as a faith-based, Christ-centered, in-house, 12-week program for men—those 18 years of age and older, regardless of any race, creed, or religious affiliation—who are struggling with drug and alcohol addiction.

Although rooted in the Church of God, Turning Point is an interdenominational program working in conjunction with orthodox and evangelical churches. Turning Point is Christ-oriented with the focus on individuals becoming “new creations in Christ,” according to 2 Corinthians 5:17. At Turning Point, they teach their residents valuable life skills in the areas of anger management, job readiness, job preparation, and successful relationship building. Most important, they show their residents that there is freedom, joy, and peace through the power of God’s Word and a personal relationship with Jesus.

Church of God World Missions recently assigned Turning Point a “missions project number” which churches and individuals can use to receive “missions-giving credit” when making a donation. World Missions endorsement, through assignment of project number 102-9400, means that donors can log on to www.cogwm.org and click on the “Give” tab and make a missions-based donation to the ministry.

In addition to World Missions support, the Alabama Church of God State Offices and Bishop Raymond Culpepper give support and endorsement to this ministry. Turning Point, which was birthed in 1992 out of the Metropolitan Church of God in Birmingham, is currently located on an eight-acre campus in Thorsby, Alabama, approximately 45 miles south of Birmingham.

Dr. Culpepper stated: “I am well acquainted with the success of the ministry of Turning Point. Their 90-day program has proven effective over and over again, and I have seen lives
transformed because of this ministry. I am proud that the state office of the Church of God in Alabama has voted to support Turning Point on a regular basis.”

Turning Point is led by Executive Director David Pendley III who is also a credentialed minister with the Church of God. He has served as executive director since 2013, and he has an extensive background in drug and alcohol treatments, having served The Foundry Rescue Mission and Recovery Center in Birmingham as director of the men’s program for 12 years. Pendley states:

Drug addiction is growing in epidemic proportions in our community, state, and nation. Many facilities like ours are filled to capacity and there seems to be no end in sight. Our message is one of hope. I see the Lord heal and restore broken lives every day. Turning Point has helped thousands of men find freedom, joy, peace, and fulfillment through the power of God’s Word. Lives are being changed, families are being restored, and disciples are being developed to carry the message of freedom into the local community, state, and beyond. It takes a team to accomplish all the work that needs to be done for the Kingdom. I pray you will join us in this endeavor with your prayers and finances.
