Operation Compassion Helps Educate Children

In every country around the world children are the most vulnerable of populations. No matter the age, children are dependent upon their parents or other adults to give assistance in order for them to succeed in life.

In many countries, children are deprived of a basic education because the costs to attend school are prohibitive. In some instances, it can take the equivalent of one year’s salary to buy textbooks, supplies and clothing to send one child to school. Because of the difficulty of many impoverished families to provide food, most children caught in these circumstances never attend school.

Operation Compassion, an independent benevolent organization with roots in the Church of God, has always had education of children as a priority. More than $100 million dollars of textbooks, schools supplies and clothing have been distributed in more than 16 different countries. Operation Compassion has continued its commitment to send school supplies, textbooks and clothing (used for school uniforms) around the world in an effort to assist children and their families. Most recently, Operation Compassion received 7 additional 40 foot containers of children’s textbooks which are being prepared for shipping to developing countries.

David Lorency, president of Operation Compassion stated, “This concentration on the education of children is a cooperative endeavor. By networking, Operation Compassion and its partners are able to provide improved distribution in areas that would be difficult if not impossible. In addition, the volume of product available for distribution is enhanced.”

By giving these children an opportunity to learn, Operation Compassion is ensuring that a young mind will not be wasted. Who knows but one of these children might discover a cure for AIDS or one of the many cancers. One child might grow up to impact poverty in their country and improve the mortality rate. No matter the outcome, Operation Compassion will continue to help children.
