World Missions Assists Refugee Situation
In keeping with a plan crafted by leadership of World Missions and Church of God in Europe to assist the overwhelming exodus of refugees, word is already reaching World Missions of those who are initiating assistance.
In recent reports, World Missions Director Tim Hill and Assistant Director John Childers have heard from Regional Superintendent of Central Europe/East and The Balkans Jonathan Augustine that Pastor Ivan is helping to establish churches in Poland among the Ukrainians fleeing the war zone. Of grave concern, though, is that Pastor Ivan’s assistant pastor who remains in Ukraine was taken by Russian separatists along with another believer.
Kelly Myers, Career Missionary to the Czech Republic had this to say: “In the face of numbers so huge, it has been difficult to know how to respond effectively to the situation. I was moved to action when a trusted European pastor said, ‘This could well be the greatest evangelistic opportunity of our lifetime.’
“Because of this belief and through prayer, I’ve asked God to direct my endeavors where they can help the most. We have seen trains arrive carrying refugees, but many of them are traveling through Hungary, Austria, Serbia, and Croatia in hopes of reaching Western Europe.”
Myers went on to report that the church in Prague recently collected medical supplies and sleeping bags for the refugees. “My team is equipped to offer cultural adaptation classes, and to visit the refugee camps to teach native languages, play games with the children, and make crafts with the women,” she said. “Donations of food and clothing are always needed.”
“Foremost in prayer is that God will keep these refugees safe and provide spaces for them where they can be welcomed. The truth is that our refuge is not in the present living situations, but in the God we serve, who wants us to feel safe in Him and His provision, no matter where we are.”
