Lee University Preparing for Homecoming Weekend

Cleveland, TN–Each November for the last 55 years, Lee University graduates have returned to campus to celebrate and remember the time-honored tradition of Homecoming. This year’s Homecoming takes place this weekend, November 6-7, and throughout the two days Lee will host various events to welcome alumni back to campus.

Homecoming guests are invited to start the weekend at the Check-In Buffet on Friday, Nov. 6 at noon. The free lunch buffet will feature campus restaurant offerings, and free t-shirts will be provided while supplies last.

“The Alumni Relations office prepares all year to create an interesting and diverse menu of Homecoming activities,” said Patti Cawood, director of Alumni Relations. “We think there is an event for an alum from every generation and major.”

On Friday and Saturday night, alumni are invited to bring the entire family to see Lee Theatre’s “Treasure Island,” a family-friendly adaptation of Robert Louis Stephenson’s classic tale of adventure at sea. “Treasure Island” is a stunning yarn of piracy on the tropical seas, presenting an unforgettable tale of treachery and mayhem featuring a host of legendary swashbucklers.

A highlight of the annual Homecoming weekend is the Music Festival, featuring world-class student musicians putting on a diverse and brilliant performance. Featuring a reunion choir celebrating 50 years of the Ladies of Lee choir, the Music Festival is a time to enjoy Lee’s enduring legacy of talented, powerful music.

The Alumni Grand Reunion, a long-standing tradition with a twist, is being held this year on the pedestrian mall and amphitheater. Everyone is invited to this celebratory party on Friday night, featuring music by a disc jockey, free festive food, and the company of alumni and friends.

Back for a third year, the enormously popular department breakfasts will be held Saturday at 9 a.m. at various locations around campus. These events provide a networking opportunity for alumni to connect with professors and former classmates. Ten departments will participate, and each will feature a guest speaker. The department chairs will provide updates about the department, and an award celebrating a distinguished alum will be presented at each event.

An emerging favorite of the weekend is the Blessing of the Couples, which will be held on Saturday at 10:30 a.m. on the steps of the Lee Chapel. A brief ceremonial dedication and a prayer will be offered over the couples who choose to attend and celebrate their marriage.

“Eventually we all realize that relationships are the best part of life,” said Dr. Jerome Hammond, vice president for university relations at Lee. “Homecoming is the perfect time to celebrate the relationships we formed at Lee.”
