Mission Mexico
Mission Mexico is the outreach ministry of Church of God Short-Term Missionaries Lloyd and Joyce Heiney. The major emphasis of their ministry is to take Spanish Bibles into Mexico, where they have distributed at least 8,000 Spanish Bibles, plus thousands of gospel tracts and cartons of Sunday school literature. The Heineys pray for the sick, for those who are homeless, and for those living near city dumps.
Among those the Heineys assist is Pastor Gerardo and his wife and family of four children in Nuevo Progreso. Anytime new territories are entered or there are new victories, one can expect new spiritual battles, as well. Rather than becoming discouraged, the pastor believes “the greater the trials, the greater the victory!”
Recent heavy rains caused flooding in Nuevo Progreso where Pastor Gerardo pastors an established church and parsonage. It is a poor, low-lying section of town, where hundreds of families live in little more than sheds.
The promised drainage system initiated by both the US and Mexican governments for environmental reasons has failed, and was curtailed due to lack of funds. Although the church and parsonage avoided flooding, the road and surrounding areas were under water. This is one of the church’s challenges this year—to rid the city of this unhealthy situation.
Pastor Gerardo and the ministerial alliance will work as a team to improve the city of Nuevo Progreso. They will be a powerful force to help the poor families and those who are sick. Is it any wonder that the work suffers spiritual attacks?
The Bible tells us: “For the battle is the Lord’s, and He will give you into our hands” (1 Samuel 17:47).
