European Leader Reflects on Brussels Bombing
Chris Swift, Regional Superintendent of Western Europe for the Church of God, recently penned his thoughts about the bombing which took place in Brussels, Belgium, an area where Rev. Swift has deep roots in ministry:
Some people might ask where was God in all this? The morning of the bomb attack, a taxi driver had a serious argument with three angry unknown passengers who appeared to be of Middle Eastern ethnicity. They wanted to put five heavy suitcases in the cab and only three would fit. Later on, the three men entered the Brussels Airport; as it turned out, two were suicide bombers and blew themselves up; a third bomb did not detonate and the third man escaped.
The cab driver took the police to the address where he had picked up the three men—they found bomb-making materials and an ISIS flag in the apartment.
If two of the three suitcases did so much damage, what would’ve happened if the taxi had been large enough for all five suitcases? Is it possible that God made sure that a smaller taxi showed up that morning at that address in Brussels/Schaerbeek?
Another true story: the morning of the attack, a Brussels New Jerusalem Church of God mother woke up at 3 a.m. and felt the need to spend time with God. She did not understand why God woke her up, because she was so tired and had to go to work at 8 a.m. However, she spent hours seeking God, praising Him, worshiping Him, and praying for her family. Later that morning, her daughter called her from the Brussels airport and in a shaky voice said: “Mother, I was slightly delayed going in the airport. There were explosions just ahead. I am safe. But, if I had not been delayed, I might not have been alive to call you.” Who can deny that God called a mother to prayer for just such a time as this? Could God have delayed that daughter because of her mother’s prayers? Could her prayers even have had something to do with that small taxi?
Thank you for your continued prayers. God is at work and we will see His glory yet.
