Operation Compassion Continues Hurricane Matthew Relief Work
The storm has passed but the destructive results are still being realized from Hurricane Matthew, which left five U.S. states devastated and the country of Haiti crippled. Some are saying the destruction rivals that of Hurricane Katrina but in many ways, it is worse. Bodies are still being found and the water in North Carolina is still rising.
In the U.S., lines of people formed at distribution sites resourced by Operation Compassion, God’s Pit Crew and their network of disaster partners. Without power and potable water, the people are eager for help. On Monday, resources such as five semi-trailer loads of food, water, hygiene items, blessing buckets, and other emergency aid essentials began arriving at some of the hardest hit areas in the Carolinas. Relief crews specializing in construction, hot meal preparation, product distribution, and chaplains were either already at work or on their way. Ten more semi-trailer loads are being staged and prepared for delivery.
Consistent shipments delivered every month for the past 12 years, positioned Operation Compassion for a fast and meaningful response in Haiti. Shipments of products that could be repurposed for emergency aid were already in warehouses or on cargo ships in the country before Hurricane Matthew hit land. Calls were made and critical assistance was delivered to those in need. As of Tuesday, five more 40-foot container loads of emergency aid are staged and being prepared for shipment to Haiti.
According to David Lorency, president of Operation Compassion, “Stories are pouring in of those helped at our distribution sites. People are coming together and helping each other. We are grateful that we can be a part of the recovery process and thankful for the continuing support of our donors who make our response possible.”
