Smoky Mountain Children’s Home Receives Award, Announces Benefit
SEVIERVILLE, TN– Shane Smith, Director of Business and Records for the Church of God’s Smoky Mountain Children’s Home, announced earlier this month that the local children’s home has once again received the prestigious 4-Star rating from Charity Navigator, America’s largest independent charity evaluator. The award verifies sound fiscal management practices and commitment to accountability and transparency.
Charity Navigator’s website, www.charitynavigator.org, attracts more visitors than all other charity rating groups combined. Since 2002, using objective analysis, CN has awarded only the most fiscally responsible organizations a 4-Star rating. In 2011, CN added “Accountability and Transparency” metrics, which account for 50 percent of a charity’s overall rating, reveal which charities operate in accordance with industry best practices and whether they are open with their donors and stakeholders.
Michael Thatcher, president and CEO of CN said, “Smoky Mountain Children’s Home’s exceptional 4-star rating sets it apart from its peers and demonstrates its trustworthiness to the public. Only a quarter of charities rated by Charity Navigator receive the distinction of our 4-star rating. Based on this rating, people can trust that their donations are going to a financially responsible and ethical charity when they decide to support Smoky Mountain Children’s Home.”
“It’s important our donors trust that we’re using their contributions wisely to accomplish the goal of caring for children and youth,” said Dr. Walt Mauldin, executive director of SMCH. Our 4-star Charity Navigator rating demonstrates to our supporters our good governance and financial accountability.”
In the same week, SMCH announced it will host its Annual Fall Harvest Benefit Auction and Dinner on Tuesday, October 25, 2016, at the campus’s Moffett Dining Hall in Sevierville.
“This year the event is shaping up to be a unique experience that will astound the audience with the unleashed talent of international artist Paul Murray, performing on stage, and the exquisite auctioneer talents of Todd Thompson,” said Coleman Peacock, director of communications and campus services at the home. “During the evening dinner, the audience will watch multiple paintings come alive in minutes, as Murray’s brushes become a symphony of magical color and soul.” Peacock went on to describe that Murray’s talents involve, “incredible feats choreographed to remarkable music. Entertaining? Yes! Yet, remarkable … outstanding … stunning…awesome. “ The paintings will then be auctioned to benefit Smoky Mountain Children’s Home in the purchase of new carpet for their dining hall.
Peacock said the evening will continue with the sounds of auctioneer, Todd Thompson, as he takes bids on large ticketed items, such as an officially autographed boxing glove by Muhammad Ali, an autographed guitar by Taylor Swift, a Bahama Cruise, a print of the cast of Downton Abbey signed by all the stars, a print of the cast of Star Wars Episode 7 signed by all the stars, an autographed Carrie Underwood photo, and a signed photo of Johnny Cash. All of this takes place while a silent auction will proceed in the background involving items contributed by local merchants.
All proceeds from the auction and dinner will benefit Smoky Mountain Children’s Home to help re-carpet the Moffett Dining Hall, the second phase in refurbishing the 27-year-old facility. Tickets for the event are available at Smoky Mountain Children’s Home and Ogle Furniture in Sevierville for $35 each. Please call 865-453-4644 Ext 127, or email [email protected]. Doors will open at 5:00 P.M. for the silent auction, and dinner will be served at 6:00 while viewing the live performance of Murray. Moffett Dining Hall is located on the grounds of the Home for Children located at 449 McCarn Circle, Sevierville, Tennessee.
