Shooting Victim Macías Remains in ICU
Hispanic Ministries of the Church of God recently received an update concerning Juan Ignacio Macías’ condition. The update was submitted by Evangelist Ignacio Macías, Juan’s father, who is an ordained bishop and evangelist with the Church of God.
As mentioned in a previous report on Faith News, Sunday, November 5, Juan Ignacio and his wife, Jennifer, were attending the morning services at First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs, Texas. A heavily armed gunman began a senseless attack on the attendants, killing 26 people of all ages and severely injuring another 20. Among the fatally shot were a pregnant woman, several children, including the fourteen-year-old pastor’s daughter. Of the 20 people injured, several are still in critical condition, while four have life-threatening wounds. Juan Ignacio Macías is among those who are still in the Intensive Care Unit of a military hospital in San Antonio, Texas.
In the reckless gunfire, Juan Ignacio was impacted from his back, by five high caliber bullets, that were fired by the deranged gunman who carried military grade weapons as he attacked the congregation of the First Baptist Church of Sutherland Springs.
According to a report from Church of God Hispanic Ministries, Evangelist Macías states that his son, Juan Ignacio, is under a medically-induced coma to help his body recover from the extensive surgeries and to stop the hemorrhages.
“Bishop Macias affirmed that the bleeding is under control and ask that we would continue to pray for God to restore him completely,” stated Dr. Carlos Moran, director of Church of God Hispanic Ministries. “The Macias’ hope for Juan Ignacio’s restoration increases by the hour as he continues to overcome his wounds.” Moran went on to say that Bishop Macías says his son was a retired Gunnery Sergeant with the U.S. Marine Corps where he served for twenty-six years. His friends call him “Gunny.” He is a war veteran who served his country well and is a faithful disciple of Christ, good husband, father and friend. He completed his military service with distinction and retired honorably.
The Macías family is very grateful for all the prayers on behalf of Juan Ignacio. His wife, Jennifer, and children, Nicholas and Amanda, are believing that “Gunny” will completely recover from this ordeal.
“We must continue to pray for Gunnery Sergeant Juan Ignacio Macías and for the other victims of this irrational shooting,” Moran concluded. “Let’s pray for the families of the deceased. May those families find comfort and peace in God’s Word as friends show the love of Christ in caring for their needs.”
Church of God General Overseer Tim Hill led a corporate prayer for Macías at the conclusion of the livestream broadcast on the International Offices chapel last week.
