Celebrating Purity and Respect this Valentine’s Day
The 15th annual Day of Purity is a project led by Liberty Counsel on Valentine’s Day to promote purity and respect. It encourages and celebrates young people who choose to save sexual intimacy for marriage.
Students are encouraged to wear white on February 14th to help promote abstinence and inspire young people to look past casual sex to lifetime intimacy. The Day of Purity is based on First Timothy 4:12: “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, in faith and in purity” (NIV). Young people are also encouraged to wear a special LIVEPURE wristband on that day and throughout the year. This effort has even caught the attention of people in 37 countries who have reached out and supported this special day.
While Hollywood may encourage sexuality activity outside marriage, the #MeToo movement is just one of the devastating consequences of a selfish and overly sexualized culture. In contrast, studies show far-reaching benefits for saving sexual intimacy for marriage. For example:
• Women who marry as virgins have a six percent divorce rate rather than the 40-50 percent average.
• Teens who are sexually abstinent make an average of $370,000 more during their lifetime.
• Each day in America 8,000 teens will be infected with a sexually transmitted disease.
• Approximately one million teenage girls will become pregnant this year and 350,000 of them will abort their child.
Holly Meade, Liberty Counsel’s director of communications and international director for the Day of Purity said, “In today’s culture, young people are bombarded with messages encouraging them to become sexually active at a young age and to experiment with their sexual preferences. When they stand up for sexual purity, they send a message to parents, churches, communities, legislators and the media that they want a different world. The Day of Purity, on February 14, 2018, is an opportunity they have to take a stand for self-respect and publicly communicate they will not be dictated by Hollywood’s mirage. And as they make this pledge for purity, they can drastically change the statistics of teenage pregnancy and sexually transmitted diseases,” said Meade.
