Operation Compassion Sends Relief Help to California

With two deadly fires raging across California, Operation Compassion, an independent benevolent organization with roots in the Church of God, is sending disaster relief supplies to aid those that have lost their homes. The Woolsey fire located in southern California is near 100% contained. Firefighters are hopeful this blaze can be fully contained by the end of the week.

The other Blaze, known as the Camp fire, is only 30% contained and is projected not to be fully contained until the end of November. The Camp fire, located to the north, is now the deadliest blaze in California history leaving 42 dead so far and 200 missing as more than 100,000 acres have been burned and 7,000 structures destroyed.

Operation Compassion sent three semi-trucks loaded with relief goods and supplies to Sacramento which will be shuttled to Chico, the town closest to Paradise which was completely destroyed earlier this week. Shannon Fannin, a long term Church of God benevolence agency will be handling the distribution from Sacramento.

Disaster buckets, bottled water, food, snacks, baby food, baby diapers, assorted baby items, including, cribs, strollers and high chairs, blankets, adult diapers, inflatable mattresses, duffle bags, paper products, laundry detergent and work gloves are some of the products being delivered.

“Our hearts go out to the survivors of the fires as they tell their stories of barely escaping the flames, often having to drive or run through tunnels of fire,” said Operation Compassion Director Dave Lorency. “Only to realize later they survived but their homes and personal items did not. Operation Compassion will reach out to help lessen their burden and help them make it through these immediate dark days.”
