First Global Ministry Forum Held in California
Fountain Valley, Calif.: The first of 23 Global Ministry Forums was held last night, February 7, 2019, in Fountain Valley, California at the Living Waters Christian Fellowship church. There were approximately 118 people there to express their thoughts and ideas on a variety of items impacting the future of the Church of God.
Dr. Tim Hill, General Overseer of the Church of God, led the forum and served as the moderator. Also representing the Church of God Executive Committee was Dr. John Childers, Secretary General.
“I was blessed and literally overwhelmed to hear so many express their hopes about the future of our great church,” Hill stated. “The commitment to make our movement more effective was evident in every person who spoke. There was a true expression of a desire to see the Church of God a better church and a more productive vehicle to finish the Great Commission. I look forward to hearing the comments of others as we travel literally around the globe.”
The forums were mandated by the 2018 General Assembly to address four specific topics: Understanding Ministry Ranks; Qualifications of Ministry; Women in Leadership Positions, and the Meaning and Usage of the Term “Bishop.”
Each of the four topics were discussed during the first forum. However, the topics of women in leadership positions and the usage of the term Bishop received the most comments.
“I was most pleased to see every sector of our church represented during the discussion. From seasoned ministers to new members of the church, they expressed their comments. Most importantly, we heard from newly credentialed young ministers, both male and female, who expressed their hope in the future of the Church of God,” stated Hill.
The first forum had an added feature in that it also included the induction of Dan and Finnabea Moore into the Pentecostal Theological Seminary Hall of Prophets.
The next forum will be held in Oklahoma City on February 12, 2019 at the Southern Hills Church. To learn more about the forums, please visit www.globalministryforums.com.
