Local Churches Working with Operation Compassion in Nashville
A series of deadly tornadoes struck the Nashville Metro area about 1:30 am on Tuesday leaving scores of damaged homes and businesses.
More than 45 buildings had collapsed after losing their roofs and torrential rain flooded many upper floors. Four counties in the greater Nashville area reported at least 23 fatalities and numbers are expected to climb as rescuers continue search and rescue efforts.
Tennessee Church of God State Overseer T. Wayne Dority cited minimal damage to a steeple at one of the congregations in the Nashville area.
As other reports of damage and injuries began to come in early Tuesday morning, Operation Compassion mobilized its disaster relief partners. Currently, OC is establishing four disaster relief sites in cooperation with the Church of God in Tennessee.
Two are in Nashville at the Life Church on Broadmoor Drive, Pastor Randy Turpin and the Generation Changers Church on Stewarts Ferry Pike, Pastor Barry Smith. Two other sites are located in the metro area outside of Nashville. Carthage Church of God on South Main Street in Brush Creek, Pastor Seth London and the Mt. Juliet Church of God on North Mt. Juliet Road in Mt. Juliet, Pastor Brian Varnell.
These sites will have trucks delivering product for those in need.
Operation Compassion and its disaster relief partners are working to deliver bottled water, food, blankets, hygiene products, clothes and shoes and other necessary goods to help those in need. Other needs may arise as further assessments are made.
