Pettitt Instrumental in Honoring Chaplain
Colorado Springs, Colo.–Church of God retired U.S. Army Chaplain Raymond Pettitt was a featured speaker at the renaming ceremony of the USPS Briargate Post Office in honor of U.S. Army Chaplain (Captain) Dale Goetz that took place on July 23, 2021.
Chaplain Goetz was killed by an improvised explosive device in Afghanistan on August 30, 2010, and was the first chaplain killed in action since the Vietnam War. Chaplain Pettitt served with Chaplain Goetz in Afghanistan and played a key role in the renaming of the Colorado Springs post office to the Chaplain Captain Dale Goetz Post Office.
U.S. Congressman Doug Lamborn, Colorado’s 5th District, and U.S. Army Chief of Chaplains (Major General) Thomas Solhjem were also keynote speakers for the ceremony. The renaming of the post office was made possible by Congressman Lamborn’s submission of bill H.R. 4725 to Congress. The bill passed unanimously through the U.S. House and Senate in late 2020 and was signed into law by President Donald J. Trump on December 21, 2020.
Chaplain Pettitt expressed a sense of honor to be a part of the renaming ceremony. He was both a friend and colleague of Chaplain Goetz.
