International General Assembly One Year Away
One year from this week, July 8-12, 2024, delegates from around the globe will be gathered for the 79th International General Assembly of the Church of God. The biennial event will take place at the Indianapolis Convention Center in Indianapolis, Indiana.
Indianapolis, nicknamed the crossroads of America, was originally scheduled as the host city for the 2020 General Assembly, which was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic. Subsequent negotiations with Indianapolis convention officials following the cancellation netted an agreement to stage next year’s Assembly at the site, while the 2022 Assembly was held in San Antonio, Texas. The postponement of the 78th Assembly from 2020 to 2022 was the first time the Church of God was compelled to re-schedule an Assembly since a similar pandemic forced cancellation in 1918.
The 2024 General Assembly (GA24) will begin on Tuesday morning, July 8, 2024, with the drop of the gavel by General Overseer Tim Hill. Nominations for church leaders are scheduled to be the first order of business for the General Council. The General Council will then elect the 18 members of the International Council of Eighteen from among their fellow ordained bishops.
An agenda of items to be deliberated is still under consideration with a final version set to be presented to the Executive Council at their April 2024 meeting in Cleveland, Tennessee. Multiple events sponsored by various groups and ministries will be part of the week’s activities, in addition to a full exhibit hall, Junior Talent competition, and the popular pre-Assembly LEAD Conference.
Registration for GA24 will begin in January 2024 with the release of a website dedicated to the event. Accommodations at partner hotels will offer event-specific rates as well. The website will have further information and announcements, including release of the official agenda and schedules as they become available.
