Lee University Continues Streak in U.S. News Best Colleges Ranking
Cleveland, TN–Lee University has been ranked once again among the best universities in the South by 2024 U.S. News and World Report’s Best Colleges.
This year Lee was ranked #31 within the top 50 “Best Regional Universities ¬– South” category, which includes both public and private universities.
“We are of course pleased with the results of this year’s rankings from U.S. News,” said Lee President Dr. Mark Walker. “It’s once again an affirmation of the quality we all strive to produce for our students here at Lee.”
In addition to the main ranking, Lee reappears in three specialty rankings. These include “Best Value Schools” listing, “Top Performers on Social Mobility,” and “Undergraduate Teaching Programs.”
To determine which colleges met the “Best Value Schools” criteria, academic quality and cost were both considered. School rankings were determined by the ratio of school’s quality to price, the percentage of need-based students who received scholarships and grants, and the percentage of the school costs, such as room and board, fees, and books that were covered by the average need-based scholarship or grant.
The “Top Performers on Social Mobility” criteria assessed a school’s graduation rate of economically-disadvantaged students. The ranking factors were accumulated by assessing graduation rates of Pell-awarded students and, for the National Universities ranking only, first-generation students.
The criteria for the “Undergraduate Teaching Programs” listing considered the school’s faculty and administrators’ commitment to high-quality teaching in undergraduate programs. The ranks were based solely upon the responses to peer assessment survey nominations for schools exhibiting strength in undergraduate teaching, which were sent in by college presidents, provosts, and admission deans.
U.S. News has been ranking colleges for 39 years and continues to be a closely watched college ranking. The magazine reviewed over 1,000 colleges and universities nationwide for the 2024 annual issue.
