Smoky Mountain Children’s Home Presents Awards

Indianapolis, IN–The Smoky Mountain Children’s Home, located in Sevierville, Tennessee, sponsored their general assembly awards brunch at the JW Marriott on Monday, July 8 to kick off their GA24 activities.

Thousands of delegates are gathered at the Indiana Convention Center for the 79th Church of God International General Assembly (GA24).

Co-Executive Director Tammie Mauldin recognized the support of Paula Hill, First Lady of the Church of God, along with the International Women’s Council members: Peggy Culpepper, Kaci Stewart and Fernanda Ramirez. Lori Lewis was present to represent the council.

Executive Director Dr. Walt Mauldin introduced Executive Committee members Dr. Raymond Culpepper and Dr. Tony Stewart. The Mauldins introduced the Care Board, Dr. Gerald McGinnis (chair), as well as the current Division of Care leadership.

Administrative Bishop Ron Martin, Ohio State Overseer, greeted everyone and shared his appreciation for the partners who continue to support the children’s home and prayed the invocation.

The Mauldins presented praise reports which included over $970,000 being raised for the Cottage Renovation Project, $88,000 raised to install 22 lantern-style lights throughout the campus, renovation of the Moffett Dining Hall, and the completion of three renovations projects for the DelMarVa-DC, Ohio, and Kentucky cottages.

The 2022-2024 General Assembly Award recipients were as follows:

The B-E State Category, second place-Rocky Mountain Region, Charissa Smith; first place-Minnesota, Linda Scott. The A State Category, second place-New Mexico, Diann Binion; first place-Arizona, Abigail Hughes. The AA State Category, second place-Missouri, Marcia Stigile; first place-Arkansas, Joy Claypoole. The AAA State Category, second place-Indiana, Kimberly Clardy; first place-Mississippi, Jean Perkins. The Four Star State Category, second place-Kentucky, Kathy Cooper; first place-South Georgia, Lorna Gosnell. The Five and Six Star State Category, second place-Alabama, Ora Hart; first place-Tennessee, Shelly Dority.

The overall state that raised the most money for the Smoky Mountain Children’s Home during this General Assembly term was Tennessee, Shelly Dority. Tennessee set an all-time record of $1,217,254.32.

Eleven state cottage sponsors were recognized: Texas, Dr. Charles & Alice Fischer; Ohio, Ron & Roshelle Martin; Tennessee, Dr. Wayne & Shelly Dority; Missouri, Michael & Marcia Stigile; Illinois, David & Sonja Kemp; Alabama, Terry & Ora Hart; South Georgia, Dr. David & Lorna Gosnell; DelMarVa-DC, Stan & Teresa Holder; Indiana, Barry & Kimberly Clardy; Virginia, Toby & Diane Morgan; and Kentucky, Dr. Tony & Kathy Cooper.

Recognition was given to the four denominational children’s homes: Heart of Florida Youth Ranch, Director Dr. John Sweet; North Carolina Home for Children, Director Ken Hudson; South Carolina Home for Children, Director Tim Kerns; West Virginia New River Ranch, Director Dr. Carla Phillips.

The Mother’s Day Offering Award resulted in a tie for second place going to the Celina-Redemption Church of God, Celina, TX, Pastor Buddy Cole and the Summer City Church of God, Dayton, TN Pastor Fred Marler. First place went to Price Chapel Church of God, Pastor Tony Franks, Lavonia, GA (for the third general assembly term).

A Christmas Offering Award was presented to second place winner Mount Juliet Church of God, Pastor Brian Varnell, Mt. Juliet, TN. The first-place winner (for the fourth General Assembly in a row) was presented to the Ministry Center, Pastor Drew Eastes, Lebanon, TN.

A Cottage Renovation Offering Award went to second place winner Hayden Church of God, Pastor Denny Armstrong, Hayden, AL, while the first place was awarded to The Word @ Lakeside Church of God, Pastor Brandon Bohannon, Lakeside, TX. This church has raised over $40,000 for SMCH.

In conclusion, Dr. Gerald McGinnis prayed for the SMCH leadership, all of the children’s home supporters and prayer partners.
