Elections and Appointments Available Online
One of the most anticipated actions during the Church of God General Assembly is the release of the official list of elections and appointments made during the biennial gathering. A physical document is released following the final closing service on Friday night of the Assembly and is also available for viewing online at the Church of God website.
The list does not contain the hundreds of appointments still being made in foreign countries or boards and committees which will come at a later date. It does include all state and regional overseer designations, international offices leadership appointments, and divisions. Appointments listed for World Missions contains leaders primarily based in Cleveland and those who oversee regions of the world.
Many posted on social media of their appointments, whether new or returning to their state, region, or post. State overseers are eligible to serve up to 12 years, and elected posts at the International Offices are four-year terms. Other appointments vary in tenure or have none.
A few highlights of the list include the five members elected to the Executive Committee, all of whom are in four-year terms. They include General Overseer Gary Lewis, First Assistant Tony Stewart, Second Assistant Wayne Dority, Third Assistant Mark Williams, and Secretary General Thomas Madden. Sean O’Neal and Scott Sheppard were elected to the new posts of Director and Assistant Director of Evangelism respectively. Former Third Assistant General Overseer David Ramirez was elected Assistant Director of World Missions following the resignation by former assistant director John Childers, who has been appointed Executive Director of Global Communications. General Director of World Missions, M. Thomas Propes, is in his second two years of a four year term. Former First Assistant General Overseer Raymond Culpepper will be the new Executive Director of the Division of Care Ministries, while immediate past General Overseer Tim Hill will assume leadership as state overseer of Tennessee.
In the Department of Youth and Discipleship, former Assistant Director Brian Yaun was elevated to director, while Max Reyes, state youth and discipleship director of Ohio, was elected the new assistant. Outgoing director Rob Bailey has been appointed state overseer of Texas.
A few other changes and shifts in leadership included the appointment of David Ray to Executive Liaison to the General Overseer, moving from the role of Director of Pathway Press. Assuming leadership at Pathway is David Gosnell, who moves from overseer of South Georgia. Moving to South Georgia will be Tony Cooper.
The complete list of state and regional overseers as well as other appointments is available at churchofgod.org. The list will be updated regularly over the next several weeks to include boards, committees, and other appointments as they become available.
