Smoky Mountain Children’s Home Provides Adoptions for 44

Sevierville, TN–During the calendar year of 2024, the Church of God’s Smoky Mountain Children’s Home provided a forever home for 44 children and young people through their adoption agency. According to SMCH officials, this is an all-time record.

“Everyone deserves a home!” said SMCH Director Dr. Walt Mauldin. “Children and young people from all walks of life need a safe place to experience the love of family. Part of the mission and ministry of the Smoky Mountain Children’s Home has been to find permanency for those in their care.”

The SMCH adoption program is directed by twenty-year veteran, Melody Jones, assisted by Mandy Morgan. Both staff members believe they are called to help children become adopted. Their extensive work is filled with meticulous documentation, carried out by over 20 assisting employees, attending multiple court dates but always graced with a labor of love. Melody Jones said, “I love my job and am honored to have a small role in the adoption process. Social work is difficult, but adoption days are the most rewarding. Witnessing a foster child being accepted into a forever family is one of my favorite times.”

Adoptions are under the supervision of Foster Care Director Beverly Beard. Beverly stated, “Melody Jones and Mandy Morgan are the best in the adoption business. Their compassion to place the right child in the right home is commendable. This past year they placed twin newborns all the way up to sixteen-year-old young people into adoption homes. We believe every child deserves to be part of a loving, caring family. This type of achievement is nothing short of extraordinary for our organization.”

SMCH adoptions took place in the Tennessee counties of Anderson, Blount, Campbell, Cocke, Hamilton, Jefferson, Washington and Wilson.
