First Female Church of God Army Chaplain Promoted to Lieutenant Colonel
Washington, D.C.–In a historic moment for the Church of God and the U.S. Army, Chaplain (LTC) Patricia Nichols achieved a significant milestone as the first woman Army Chaplain from the Church of God to be promoted to the distinguished rank of Lieutenant Colonel.
Chaplain Nichols’ journey into formal military ministry began in 2008 when she answered the call to serve as an Active Duty Army Chaplain. Embarking on this mission alongside her husband, Army Chaplain Jimmy Nichols, the couple embraced the unique challenges and blessings of dual chaplaincy while raising their four sons.
“The Nichols family exemplifies dedication, resilience, and unity, having served together at multiple duty stations across the United States and overseas,” stated Dr. Richard Pace, director of the Church of God Chaplains Commission. “Both Patricia and Jimmy Nichols completed combat tours, ministering to soldiers in some of the most demanding circumstances.” Recently retired as a Colonel, Jimmy Nichols now champions Patricia’s ministry as her devoted Army spouse.
Currently serving in the Army Chief of Chaplains Office at the Pentagon, Chaplain Nichols continues to inspire and lead with distinction. Throughout her career, she has ministered to thousands of soldiers and their families, embodying the core values of faith, compassion, and service. Her promotion represents not only a personal achievement but also a landmark for women ministers within the Church of God, demonstrating the heights that can be reached when one faithfully answers God’s call—even in a rigorous environment like the U.S. Army.
“The Church of God proudly celebrates Chaplain Nichols’ accomplishments,” Pace continued as he reflected on his attendance at the promotion ceremony. “This promotion is a testament to the unwavering dedication, leadership, and spiritual guidance of Chaplain Patricia Nichols. She brings great honor to the Church of God and exemplifies the true heart of servant leadership. Congratulations, Chaplain (LTC) Patricia Nichols, on this remarkable achievement! You are a trailblazer and an inspiration to countless others.”
