In the first hours after the catastrophe, the organization reached out to trusted partners on the ground to get real-time assessments and to provide urgently needed support to begin helping survivors. Less than 48 hours later, Samaritan’s Purse sent a team of disaster response specialists to Nepal and began loading its plane with over 40 tons of supplies, including heavy duty tarp, blankets, water filters, hygiene kits, and solar lights.
“The devastation in Nepal is unimaginable,” said Samaritan’s Purse President Franklin Graham. “We’re all heartbroken to see the death toll continue to climb, and many families are still waiting for news of their missing loved ones even as they have been left with nothing but the clothes on their backs. It’s important that we work quickly to help ease as much suffering as possible. We want the people of Nepal to know that God loves them, and I ask everyone to join us in continuing to pray for them.”
Samaritan’s Purse previously responded to an earthquake in Nepal in 2015 and maintained an in-country office until 2018.
Based in Boone, North Carolina, Samaritan’s Purse responds to the physical and spiritual needs of individuals in crisis situations in Jesus’ Name—especially in locations where few others are working. For more information, visit SamaritansPurse.org.
