Social conservative activists from across the country will be meeting in the nation’s capital Friday and Saturday to listen to their favorite politicians, commentators, and celebrities outline their vision for America.
The fourth annual Values Voter Summit kicks off tomorrow morning in Washington, DC, with speeches from three evangelical Christian politicians: Congressman Mike Pence (R-Indiana), former Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee, and Congresswoman Michele Bachmann (R-Minnesota). Following their addresses, another prominent Christian politician, Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina), will take part in a national healthcare town hall meeting with other Republican lawmakers who oppose President Obama’s healthcare bill.
The event, which is sponsored by Family Research Council, American Family Association, and Focus on the Family, will also feature a special appearance on Friday by former Miss California Carrie Prejean, who FRC says will talk about her “transformation from model to role model on traditional marriage.”
On Saturday, culture war icon Phyllis Schlafly of Eagle Forum will receive the James Dobson Vision and Leadership Award for her decades of involvement in conservative political activism. Former Alaska Governor Sarah Palin was invited to speak at the event, but declined the invitation. Another scheduled speaker, Dr. Don Wildmon of the American Family Association, will not attend due to health issues.
The Values Voter Summit 2009 will be streamed live Sept. 18-20 through the American Family Association website.
Registration is required to view the Summit free of charge.
