COLOMBIA — It was a pleasant surprise to see about 12 of the parents respond to receive Christ as Savior when we gave an altar call. There were many children that responded also.
We recently conducted a special morning worship service. We invited and bused around 40 children from a poor neighborhood across town, along with their parents, to celebrate Christ and enjoy various presentations performed by the children themselves and some of our young adult members. The smaller children, five to eight years old, sang songs proclaiming Christ as king of their hearts. The drama group did a presentation about “Preparing a Throne for Jesus in My Heart.” The atmosphere was so festive with balloons, ribbons and confetti being strewn across the building.
The majority of the children’s parents never attended a Christian church service before. So it was a pleasant surprise to see about 12 of the parents respond to receive Christ as Savior when we gave an altar call. There were many children that responded also. Our job in that area will require a lot of follow up work through practical teaching and discipleship to help the parents understand the principles of the gospel so that they can continue teaching their children and helping them to grow in faith. We do have a small group that is going out once a week to this neighborhood to give Bible lessons to the children, and a small group study based on marriage and parenting.
