Even in Times of Sorrow

A member of the Church of God in Livonia, Georgia, obeyed God above and beyond. Her pastor is Tyrone Hutchinson, who is missions-minded and encourages his church to give.

Recently God told the woman to donate money for food outside the United States. Others had pressed her to give locally, but she knew that was not what God had spoken to her. She had to get it out of her hands. Knowing World Missions Field Representative Robert Daugherty was soon to conduct a missions service at her church, she got word to him to find somewhere on the missions field where she could provide the money to feed children.

When the time arrived for the missions service, Brother Daugherty looked for this dear sister, but she was nowhere to be found. He later learned her daughter had died and the funeral was that Sunday afternoon. Amazingly, on her way to her daughter’s funeral, she brought a check for Brother Daugherty for $15,000!

In a time of great sorrow, this woman obeyed the Lord and released untold blessings for countless children somewhere in the world. Her time of grief will always be remembered now with a testimony of God’s overshadowing her life. 1 Samuel 15:22 says, “Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams.”
