Janet Polen Priceis a second generation Church of God individual. Her roots go deep and are extensive.
By Janet Price
My father, Dr. O. W. Polen, was the longest-serving editor of Church of God publications, spanning eighteen years. The EVANGEL was his heart-throb. Although I worked for a large northern newspaper company, and was later employed by a local radio station, God accomplished His will for my life when I came to World Missions. Missions in my earlier years was not at the forefront of my focus, but the church my father pastored in Flint, Michigan, was a state and national leading missions-giving church. Somehow that emphasis began to later take hold of my heart, and missions is now my calling. Never really thinking about the writing aspect, editorial and publication work was my designated assignment, and has been for 27 years in the World Missions department. I am presently the Media Team leader, working with other gifted and specialized personnel in accomplishing publication tasks. While we live in a gilded age of technology, the written word will have lasting significance – it will remain for centuries, and that is important.
Along with my regular responsibilities comes what I call the “Ministry of Miniscule.” Having served in my position for so many years has contributed to my being somewhat of a “resource” person with a knowledge that can be a vast reservoir in many areas . . . and if I don’t know, I will sure find out who does!
Interacting with missionaries on a regular basis is one of the greatest perks of my job. Missionaries are some of the most interesting, unique, and anointed people on the face of the earth. Establishing wonderful, lasting friendships with them is unlike anything you can compare . . . they are prayer warriors and lend themselves to sacrificial lives. Another great aspect of the work here is the extensive information, traveling, and experience one can gain from association with world missions involvement.
Someone once titled me “Heart of Missions.” I’d like to think that is exactly what I am, for it is truly in my heart.
