Miners’ Pre-rescue Divine Encounter

A mission-minded agency is reporting that the rescued Chilean miners experienced an encounter with Jesus long before they were pulled out of the depths of a mountain.

The miners were trapped 2,000 feet below ground for 69 days before their rescue. Greg Gregoire, senior associate at The JESUS Film Project, tells OneNewsNow that after it was established the miners were alive, family members asked that items of a spiritual nature be sent to them to give them a sense of hope and encouragement. Gregoire says local contacts Jose Henriquez and Christian Maureira made the arrangements.

“[They] put the audio version of the JESUS Film and [a] dramatized audio version of the New Testament on an MP3 player, gave those to the families, and the families had them passed on to the miners,” Gregoire reports.

Just prior to their rescue, the miners asked if they could have a T-shirt that would show solidarity. So The JESUS Film Project senior associate explains that two of the miners got to work on a design that “had the Chilean flag and ‘Thank You God’ because they wanted to say ‘thank you, Lord,’ recognizing his role in their rescue, their safety [and] their survival.”

His organization then made the T-shirts and included a verse the miners requested from Psalm 95:4, which talks about how God is God over the depths, as well as over the mountains. The JESUS Film Project’s logo is displayed on one sleeve, while that of Campus Crusade for Christ is on the other.

When the miners surfaced earlier this month, they were wearing their T-shirts to express their deepened faith. Gregoire feels it is just one example of his organization going to great lengths to reach the unreachable.
