Church of God Becomes Affiliate of NHLC
The executive committee of the Church of God, in session earlier this week, confirmed the denomination’s affiliation with America’s largest Hispanic Christian Organization, the National Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference (NHCLC). The group is also known as the Hispanic National Association of Evangelicals.
Hispanics are the fastest-growing religious demographic in the United States.
The NHCLC, as the largest Latino Christian organization in America and the sister organization of the 47 million strong National Association of Evangelicals, the group leads the 16 million vibrant and growing Hispanic Born Again community and 25,434 Evangelical congregations by providing leadership, networking, partnerships, strategic partnerships and public policy advocacy platforms to seven directives: Life, Family, Great Commission, Stewardship, Education, Youth and Justice.
“21st century challenges require an evangelical community to speak on a moral and biblical platform that is culturally and prophetically relevant,” stated Dr. Jesse Miranda, chief executive officer of the organization. “Accordingly, we understand the Evangelical movement in America is in the hands of the Latino community. We must lead with righteousness and justice as we incorporate spiritual, educational, moral and justice threads in all our work for the Cause of Christ and His Kingdom.”
The Church of God is already involved in leadership with the NHCLC as three Church of God ministers serve on the board of directors. They include Eliezar Bonilla, pastor of Abundant Life Church in San Antonio, Texas, Luis Rodriguez, pastor of New Life Church in Tucson, Arizona and Samuel Santana, administrative bishop for the southwestern Hispanic Church of God.
Carlos Moran, director of Hispanic Ministries for the Church of God said, “We commend the executive committee for approving the inclusion of the Church of God in the Hispanic National Association of Evangelicals as an affiliate member.”
“The NHCLC is an organization with values and ministry objectives that line up squarely with the mission and vision of the Church of God,” stated Rev. Tim Hill, first assistant general overseer and liaison to Church of God Hispanic Ministries. “We look forward to a partnership which will enhance both organizations for the good of the Kingdom.”
