Operation Compassion Assists to Flood Victims in North Dakota
For the past 14 months Operation Compassion, an independent benevolent organization with ties to the Church of God, has been assisting disaster victims around the world and across the United States; with an outbreak of disasters that include earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, tornadoes and tropical storms. During this time, Operation Compassion has sent more than 350 semi-trucks or more than 10 million pounds of relief goods including various emergency supplies, products and equipment at a cost that exceeds $1,000,000. Because of the high volume, high demand and high costs of fuel and procurement, Operation Compassion’s disaster budget is deficient but we are still responding.
Now, Minot, North Dakota is facing unprecedented flooding. In response, Operation Compassion is sending a semi-truck full of disaster relief goods and products for distribution to the affected families. One of the local Churches of God had 9 feet of water in it. Businesses as well as homes have been affected, almost halting any activity except for flood preparedness.
The Souris River from Canada flows through Minot and back into Canada. Heavy rains in Canada, snow melt and extremely heavy rains in North Dakota are causing the severe flooding. More than 10,000 residents were ordered to evacuate their homes.
Pastor Jeff Heber of West Minot Church of God is coordinating the disaster relief site for the city and has done excellent work with the initial setup.
