1Branch has many features common to social networks. Members have a personal profile with a news feed or Mural. Users can also message each privately. A special broadcast section contains videos related to the Christian faith. The site features a “Prayer Box,” where members can help bear one another’s burdens. Users can post prayer requests and everyone within their denomination can see it and pray.
1Branch does differ from other social networks in several ways, though: When a user signs up, he or she will be asked to enter a denomination. This is the “Branching” section. Branching offers two streams – “Dirty Laundry” and “General” – which are specific to the chosen denomination. Dirty Laundry allows posters to post freely and anonymously about things they don’t like, understand, or that confuse them, and even about secrets a denomination may have. Anyone (within the denomination branch) can comment on the posts to bring answers and clarification.
1Branch’s founders believe that all Christians will benefit from joining. Pastors and church leaders, as well, can gain valuable insights about their churches from the dialogue that occurs on 1Branch.
