New research reveals that 31 percent of the adult U.S. population, approximately 65 million people, were at one time involved in church but have since left. This is approximately equal to the number of people still regularly attending church.
Tragedy here. Tragedy there. Tragedy everywhere. This is how it seems sometimes.
If you’ve seen any of the articles online about the Supreme Court ruling in favor of same-sex marriage, you’ve probably sensed the issue is emotionally charged. People are so happy. And others are so mad. This is a critical time for the church and for Christian parents. What should we do in light of this ruling?
My father Leonardo Aquino Corpus Sr. once wielded a bolo knife – a Filipino style machete used by farmers and warriors in the Philippines. He waved his bolo knife in the dark wee hours of the morning looking for my ghostly tormentor. I was a toddler who tried to climb into bed between him and mom. He leapt out of bed in his underwear when I told him I was scared of the boogie-man.
I would say I was your average teenager who made dumb decisions and didn’t listen to my parents when I should have, but that didn’t stop my parents from skillfully navigating me through my teen years and into adulthood! As a young adult living at home, I’ve developed a deep love, honor, and respect for my parents that was never demanded but rather earned. I’ve never had to contrive or fake the honor or respect because it flows from a sincere and overflowing heart of gratitude towards my parents.
