2017 Jail and Prison Ministry Conference Set for October 6

The Office of Special Projects in USA Missions announces that the final details have been arranged, and the 2017 Jail and Prison Ministry Conference will be held on Friday, October 6, 2017, in the Leadership and Communications Center on the campus of the Church of God International Offices in Cleveland, Tennessee.

Fall 2017 Engage Now Available

The 2017 fall issue of Church of God Engage has been released and is available digitally at www.cogengage.org.

The journal for ministers, church and lay leaders, offers a variety of articles for those working in ministry on a regular basis. Different than Church of God Evangel, Engage offers practical ministry ideas and resources, as well as items for the local church to implement.

This issue has articles that address such pertinent topics as the tithe of tithes, ways we quench the Holy Spirit, and leadership development. Guest writer Pastor Rick Warren offers “Four Ways a Pastor Can Show Love for His People.”

Regular columns include Legal Notes and Financial Matters that appeal to the minister and local church. In a special emphasis this issue, former first lady of the Church of God, Sandra Kay Williams, speaks about the role as a pastor’s wife as it relates to the church staff. She and her husband, Mark, now serve at the North Cleveland Church of God. There is also a section which looks back at the last four months of Church of God happenings as reported on Faith News Network.

Published three times a year, Engage is first emailed to ministers and leaders in the Church of God. It is then made available to anyone simply through logging into the website www.cogengage.org. On the site, the publication may be downloaded for print, or viewed in a convenient two-page spread. There are also archived copies of the publication going back several years.

Lee University Sets New Records

Cleveland, TN–Lee University’s fall student enrollment is up, according to information released by Vice President for Enrollment Phil Cook. The profile confirms an ongoing trend of steady growth and features a set of new records.

Operation Compassion’s Continued Hurricane Response

While Operation Compassion continues sending supplies to Houston in response to Hurricane Harvey, the survivors of Hurricane Irma are also being attended. With the whole state of Florida being affected in some manner by Hurricane Irma, Operation Compassion, an independent benevolent organization with roots in the Church of God, began deliveries on the Saturday before Irma even cleared the state. Since then, Operation Compassion has sent 29 trucks of supplies and products to 18 disaster relief sites across Florida’s peninsula.

Doctrine and Polity Committee Addresses Strong Drink

Members of the Church of God Doctrine and Polity (D&P) Committee recently released a paper with extensive research supporting the Church of God stance on abstinence from beer, wine, and liquors.

General Overseer Heads to Florida Hurricane Sites

Church of God General Overseer Dr. Tim Hill will travel to several locations in hurricane-ravaged Florida this weekend to assess damage and raise awareness of the need for support.
