The following is a transcript of a television news report this week from ABC-affiliate WTVC in Chattanooga, Tennessee:

Honoring More Than Mothers This Mother’s Day

For decades, Mother’s Day in the Church of God has meant more than just honoring the matriarch of the family. Through the years, the women of the Church of God have been instrumental in supporting The Smoky Mountain Children’s Home in Sevierville, Tennessee, founded nearly 100 years ago in 1920. Church and women’s groups have been traveling to the campus for workdays, financially sponsoring a group home at the campus, saving thousands Campbell’s Soup labels to redeem for new vehicles, or participating in the Box Tops for Education program.

Superlatives Named at Smoky Mountain Jubilee

The 27th annual Church of God National Senior Adult Retreat, the Smoky Mountain Jubilee, brought some 1,200 senior adults from at least 20 states or regions to Gatlinburg, Tennessee on April 25-27, 2017. Musical headliners were the family group of Roger, Debra, and Lauren—The Talleys, along with Willis Canada, and Larry DeLawder, a tremendous musician who also is a hilarious Barney Fife impersonator. The Wednesday night worship speaker this year was Pastor Mitchell Tolle, from Man ‘O War Church of God in Lexington, Kentucky. Soloists, ensembles, choirs, musicians, writers, artists, and those creative with their hands, competed in the National Senior Adult Talent Competition in three divisions: Music, Creative Writing, and Creative Art.

Peru Receives Relief From World Missions

In recent days, Peru suffered cataclysmic devastation when, after a period of severe drought, wildfires developed that destroyed nearly 30,000 acres of land. With those conditions prevalent, when intense rains came causing flooding, 67 people were killed and thousands forced to evacuate the 115,000 homes that were damaged. Complicating the situation was the fact 100 bridges were also destroyed, making it difficult to send relief to those caught in the wake. Even in the capital city of Lima, the heavy downpour flooded outlying neighborhoods.
