‘Great Days of Prayer’ WIll Continue Beginning October 7

Church of God General Overseer Mark Williams has announced that he will continue the call to Great Days of Prayer, asking Church of God congregations around the world, to set aside one day, at the beginning of each new quarter, for special prayer and a special emphasis on prayer.

“We, the Church of God, were birthed in prayer – a prayer movement that became a Christian and Pentecostal force in the earth. Our early assemblies were gatherings for prayer and searching the Scriptures, and considering the harvest,” Williams noted. “More than two decades ago, former Church of God general overseer Dr. Raymond Crowley renewed the call for the denomination to give itself to prayer. Four years ago, Dr. Culpepper, reiterated that same call. One of the features of his tenure was ‘Great Days of Prayer.’ I am continuing that emphasis.”

This Sunday, October 7, will be the first ‘Great Day of Prayer’ under the tenure of Williams, and the focus is prayer for the nation. He stated, “On this day, I am asking you for the privilege of speaking to your congregation, by video. On the website, www.praycog.org, there is a video message from me to play on that Sunday. I hope you will give me the opportunity, as your new general overseer, to address our members, and issue a special call to prayer.”

Church of God congregations are being asked to mark the date and begin their own plans for a special prayer emphasis. The day is being called ‘A Day of Prayer for the Nation!’ Those in the U.S. will focus specifically on America, and the hope is that around the world, special prayer will be offered for the United States. Materials will allow for any congregation to focus on their own nation as well, with a global spiritual awakening in mind.
