Alma’s Closet Is Long-Standing Tradition at General Assembly
Once again at the International General Assembly, Alma’s Closet will be available to assist and support Church of God missionaries.
Alma’s Closet began as a vision of the late Alma Kelley. Alma was the wife of B.L. Kelley, a church leader and former state overseer. Alma’s Closet exists to provide for the women who serve on the missions field. At the 2014 General Assembly, the organization donated dress clothing to over 80 women from 30 countries, along with matching jewelry. They were encouraged to shop in “Alma’s Closet Boutique” where they had choices of brand new dresses, separates and suits from which to choose. In total, Alma’s Closet was able to supply 300 outfits to women whose areas of service make it difficult for them to acquire quality apparel. In addition to these gifts, Alma’s Closet also prayed for these women, and gave them the opportunity to share burdens, dreams, hardships, and testimonies.
Missionary support is one of the fundamental services of Church of God World Missions, and it is through ministries like Alma’s Closet that laypeople can truly help missionaries on a more personal level.
Originating with Church of God World Missions, coordination of Alma’s Closet is in the hands of Redemption Point Church of God in Ooltewah, Tennessee. It is the hope of the ministry’s coordinators at Redemption Point to do likewise for over a hundred women at this year’s Assembly.
Coordinators are asking churches and individuals to join to make this boutique experience possible for the potential 100 missionary women who will be attending the General Assembly this year. There are several ways to be part of this tradition:
-Potential donors to the ministry are encouraged to shop and donate new items only. They can be dresses, suits, separates, shawls, shrugs and jewelry. Clothing donations should be sent to Redemption Point Church, 3831 Ooltewah-Ringgold Road, Ooltewah, TN 37363.
– Give directly through World Missions via Alma’s Closet Benevolent Ministry, project #790-1019 – c/o Church of God World Missions, P.O. Box 8016, Cleveland, TN 37320.
