Hill Delivers Message in Response to Events
Cleveland, TN—Church of God General Overseer Timothy M. Hill delivered a message to the church concerning the events that took place in Washington, D.C. on January 6, 2021.
The call to prayer and comments were delivered via Facebook Live (@COGHQ) on the Church of God’s social media page at 9:00 p.m. EST that evening.
The general overseer began the seven-minute message referring to II Timothy 2:2: “It is time to seek the Lord for our nation, pray for our leaders, churches, and families.”
Clarifying that his intent was not to instruct, Hill stated that, “regardless of any of our individual preferences or political leanings, as the Church of God we do not, and never will, endorse violence and rioting.”
“I am calling on you to do what we must do with all diligence…seek the face of the Lord for His divine help…pray for our nation in a posture of knees bent, heads bowed and hands folded.”
Before offering a prayer, Hill referred to a passage of scripture in Philippians 4:6-7 that says, “be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known unto God and the peace of God, which passes all understanding shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” He then read a note penned by his father in the margin of his Bible that simply said, “Remember son, you can always trust Him.”
“I can’t think of any other scripture that would be any more appropriate for me to leave with you before we pray than these two scriptures that my father especially marked with his own hand.”
