Riverhills Church Dedicates Feeding Center in Nicaragua
Pastor J.D. Simmons recently led a delegation from the Riverhills Church of God, Tampa, Florida to Esteli, Nicaragua for the dedication of the LaThompson Feeding Center.
Riverhills has been heavily involved in mission projects in Nicaragua that include building six beautiful churches in communities scattered throughout the country. They have recently purchased land to construct a feeding center, medical clinic, and orphanage.
Traveling with Pastor Simmons were members of the College and Career Class, several other adults and Dr. John Sweet representing the Global Child Network. The group visited “Hoger Cristiano Nicaraguense” , a Christian orphanage in Leon. The group consulted with director Bill Cox regarding the necessary steps to move forward with the work in Esteli. They also visited six churches with services in the Lapava Mountains, Del Rio, La Thompson and Esteli.
The services included puppet ministries led by sister Brittany Cannon, praise and worship in Spanish led by Danny Esposito and Christina Ruiz. The people were truly blessed by the unforgettable music of Joey Ruiz on the flute and saxophone. Each service included ministry from the word translated by David Gonzalez and awesome altar services.
Transito and Angela Lieva, who serve as ministry liaisons for Nicaragua have fueled the fire for these life changing ministries. The highlight of the trip was the dedication and opening of the feeding center on the La Thompson property.
The feeding center building and the building that will house the medical clinic are already in place. Approximately 300 children and many adults were served at the opening of the center. Grading work has started on the Orphanage site at La Thompson. The site is in the midst of abject poverty surrounded by the barrios of squatter shacks that are common in Nicaragua. We celebrate this amazing work with the people of Nicaragua and the passionate people of the Riverhills Church. We look forward to the further developments of this ministry.
